In some cases this simply involves appropriate technology, building materials, and design applied in a common sense way to minimize energy usage while providing quality, healthy environments for users. In others, an appropriate level of certification is sought to document “green” building efforts including reduced energy & water usage, use of resource efficient techniques & materials, and safety considerations.
Suarez-Kuehne Architecture takes pride in educating the whole design team, including the clients, on the appropriate opportunities for sustainability for each project. We have utilized both the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System and the Green Point Rated System by establishing realistic goals for a project early in the design phases which can then be tested and verified throughout the design and construction process. These building rating systems are based on existing proven technology. Both systems evaluate environmental performance from a “whole-systems” perspective over a building’s life cycle, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a “green building”.
